Sharing travel experiences and exploring global food cultures while making a fashion statement
‘Slay’ is the word of the moment… it’s everywhere in youth culture! When you slay, you’re doing what you do best. For me, that’s always been travelling to great places and eating amazing food! I got to do both in my previous role – working with a travel company and organising events worldwide. I wanted to somehow make a statement about the lifestyle I was living – staying in luxury hotels paid for by the company. I came up with the phrase ‘TravelEatSlay’ and I asked a friend to design me a slogan T-shirt to wear when I travelled; she did an amazing job!
From then on, every time I jetted off somewhere new I wore my T-shirt for my Instagram photos; within a year, my followers were requesting them too. I hadn’t even thought about getting into ecommerce, but that line of work chose me! I placed my first bulk T-shirt order and opened a shop on Etsy. Orders soon followed and two years later, I’m about to expand my ‘apparel for travelling millennials’ product line… swimsuits, dresses and passport covers will be coming soon!
I’ve also set up a blog – TravelEatSlay.com – to share my travel stories and tips. I get around 150 hits a week, so it’s a work in progress; however, I’ve come up with a great way to generate new content: I now curate day trips to Europe specially tailored for travel bloggers. My unique itinerary is packed with plenty of Instagram-worthy photo opportunities; you can jet off in the morning and return with tonnes of web and social media content later that night. It’s also a great option for anyone who struggles to take time off for an extended holiday but would love a one-day city break. I don’t charge for my services and our flights are never more than £30; I’m working on monetising it through paid sponsorship deals.
By day, I work for the disability charity Scope, so my evenings and weekends are all about growing TravelEatSlay – evolving it from an exciting side hustle to my full-time passion.
I’ve organised four curated trips so far – and next week we’re off to Oslo, where we’ll be slaying in the Ice Bar!
