Helping women to grow their business through the power of PR and social media
When an opportunity comes along, I believe in putting yourself out there and having a go; after all, what’s the worst that could happen? This character trait served me well when I worked in the TV industry – leading to my break as a regular co-presenter on C5’s ‘The Wright Stuff’ after initially offering to step in front of the camera to provide short-term cover – and I carried it throughout the rest of my career.
I look back on the five years I had in television with many great memories. After ‘The Wright Stuff’ came assistant producer work on ITV’s ‘Today with Des and Mel’ and ‘Loose Women’, where my role involved booking celebrities, undertaking research and coming up with fresh ideas for different segments on each of the programmes. We’d often get PR agencies contacting our team with suggestions as to what we could run with, and the nature of their work just ignited something inside me… I became totally enamoured with PR!
Ready for a fresh challenge, the next chapter of my life involved working with some big brands – including Hitachi, Sport Relief and Mars – and starting a family. I continued to love my career in marketing and communications, but when I was made redundant not long after turning 40, it felt like the right time to become my own boss.
It was important to create a business that would fit around my two children, as they’ve always come first no matter who I’ve worked with, so last summer I hit the ‘launch’ button on Mumala Club.
My online networking hub has since gone international – bringing together women in business from all over the world who are looking to connect with fellow female entrepreneurs to find mutual interests and share knowledge. We’re a collaborative bunch who pride ourselves on being each other’s cheerleaders – and sharing our successes, as well as helping one another during challenging times, has created a very special community that I adore completely. With a new daytime networking group recently unveiled, I’m passionate about providing an additional avenue for growth and bonding, which is really exciting.
I’m fulfilled as a mum, a business owner and still eager to have a go!
