Sue Tydd, Owner of Moments For You
Delivering beautiful and thoughtful gifts to those who matter to us
I spent 20 years in the fashion retail sector – working my way up from a part-time sales assistant to an area manager responsible for four stores across the North West.
Although my career was very important to me, so was family. I always managed to juggle work with raising four children with my husband. Our youngest is 19 and has just left home to go to university – and it was this event which has inspired my new business venture…
Earlier this year I was made redundant when the company I worked for was liquidated. It was a shock at first – and going through the redundancy claiming process was stressful – but then I saw it as the universe doing me a favour. I wouldn’t have left the security of my area manager role, but losing it just like that gave me no choice but to start a new chapter.
I’d met Helen McCue, the founder of Moments Candles Co, at a book launch for International Women’s Day. I was inspired by her business and the franchise opportunities it offered. Whilst chatting, I told her about my plan to create a gift box for my daughter to take to university – full of little treats and trinkets to remind her of home. Loving the sentiment behind it, she then encouraged me to launch my own business creating gift boxes – co-branding with Moments.
Since launching in August this year, I’ve had fantastic feedback from customers, with some of them moved to tears of joy; for me, that’s a better feeling than I would get receiving an actual present.
From weddings, birthday and baby-themed selections to a gift ‘just because’ – plus the capacity to undertake bespoke requests for customers – each gift box contains a selection of items (including a Moments Candle) which are specially created to awaken the connection between scents, emotions and life’s special moments.
For years I’ve hidden the fact that I’m my ‘why’ – always playing down my professional achievements – but I’ve learned that it’s absolutely fine to enjoy doing something that isn’t about anyone else… it’s all for me. Never be ashamed or scared to admit that – and remember: it’s never too late to try something different!
