Tracy Gilmour, Managing Director at Cre8 Sales Solutions Ltd
Helping SMEs who have a niche product or service to generate sale leads and appointments
Julia Smith and I have been friends since 1989. In that time we’ve shared a house, both become mums, supported each other through life’s ups and downs, and gone into business together!
The idea for Cre8 Sales Solutions came to fruition at a mumpreneur event we attended 12 years ago. We’d talked on and off about starting our own business, but that event in particular really made us think: ‘Wow! We have to do this!’
It was Julia who got the venture off the ground, with me joining up in 2010 after she’d won a big contract. Prior to that I’d worked as an accountant for a gold bullion dealer, ran my own mobile beauty business and mentored young offenders as part of a Government-funded scheme called Welfare to Work – an amazing initiative which Julia had also been a part of.
In her back bedroom, with two little desks side by side, Julia and I started to build the company. A single mum since 2006 with two young boys to support, I was determined to make it work – having total faith in our ability to complement each other’s skill-sets, as well as trusting Julia implicitly.
Personal development has always been important to both of us, and a three-day retreat we went on about nine years ago with emotional intelligence coach Sanjay Shah was life-changing. Realising we’d been running around like a pair of busy fools, we learned to look at ourselves on a deep, meaningful level. I was inspired by the weekend and went on to learn reiki – becoming a fully-fledged master teacher last year.
Today the business has a team of six and we have a lovely office in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter – practising a flexible working set-up where work-life balance is key. With a strategy in place to grow over the next three years, we’re excited and feeling positive about what’s to come.
At the beginning of this year I started volunteering at the national charity Help Harry Help Others – providing healing-based support to cancer patients and their families on a monthly basis. I love visiting and find it to be a very humbling experience – making me feel so grateful for everything I have.
